Mackenzie Hancsicsak is a 10 year old actress who appears as Young Kate on NBC’s hit show This Is Us, The cast won a SAG award this year for Best Ensemble for a Drama Series. Mackenzie has been a fan of the Strawberry Festival for years and her favorites are strawberry shortcake, and chocolate covered strawberries!
Mackenzie is fairly new to show business. She was acting in a local summer camp production when she got the call for the This Is Us audition. She performed in the play, attended the cast party, drove to LA for her audition, and the rest is history. The young actors on the show were honored at The Actors Fund’s 2017 Looking Ahead Awards. Their award for social awareness was presented to them by Elizabeth Taylor’s grandchildren! She along with her “brothers” from the show presented an award at the Artios Awards to honor the Casting Society of America this past January. And last week, she presented an award at the Shorty Awards recognizing social media influencers in New York alongside Logan Shroyer (Teen Kevin on This Is Us). You can also hear Mackenzie in a few episodes of “Tangled: The Series” alongside her This Is Us mom Mandy Moore who plays Rapunzel.
In her free time, this fifth grader loves her elementary school which recently won a local contest for donating needed supplies to 30 local charities. The whole school was thrown a party where the Mayor of Santa Clarita came by to say hi. She’s also in rehearsals in an afterschool production of “Cinderella”. She plays the stepmother. It’s been a lot of fun. She loves playing with her two rescue dogs, Bear and Finnegan (Finn for short). She also loves coming out and lending support for many charity events. Last month she attended a St. Baldrick’s head shaving event raising funds for childhood cancer research. Even her dad got in on the act, when he decided to shave his head that day in support, too. Mackenzie’s maternal grandmother died from cancer so she is very dedicated in helping eliminate this horrible disease. She loves being a Girl Scout and loves her troop and enjoys meeting people especially when she’s out selling Girl Scout cookies during cookie sales month.
This year she reached her goal of selling over 1,000 boxes and is being honored with a group called the “Elite 1000” with a trip to Disneyland. She also likes being a role model for other girls her age. She’s an Ambassador for the G.U.T. (Girls Uplifters Team) whose philosophy is to support, encourage and uplift others. She loves hanging with her friends, going to movies and plays. On the recent trip to New York she saw the SpongeBob Musical which was fantastic. And she’s going to be back in New York in May to interview the Tony nominees at their nominee luncheon. Such an unbelievable honor. She can’t wait! She’s looking forward to riding in the festival parade and tasting all things strawberries.
