Johnny Ortiz

Johnny starred as Tony Gutierrez on season one of ABC’s Emmy and Golden Globe nominated “American Crime.”  His newest film “Soy Nero” – in which he has the leading role – just premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.  His additional film credits include Disney’s “McFarland USA” with Kevin Costner and “Strike One” with Danny Trejo. Johnny is currently filming a new pilot entitled “Citizen” for Hulu.

When not on the set, Johnny Ortiz continues his education by working on a college degree in the Los Angeles area. Johnny speaks English Spanish, basic Chinese and Russian and is also quite the athlete. He enjoys most sports including several Martial Arts and plays the drums and flute.

Johnny is also known for his good heart and always giving back to the community by acting as a role model for kids from inner city schools and inspiring them to follow their dreams. Johnny is on the advisory board of The Unusual Suspects.

Johnny also supports The Apex Protection Project which rescues wolf dogs that have been tortured and abandoned to die, then rehabilitates them into therapy dogs for at-risk inner-city kids.

“Life Hand” — Latinos in Film and Entertainment — is Johnny Ortiz’s own non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk kids achieve new dreams by creating education based after school programs with substance, where they can actually learn something (like an instrument) that is going to change their lives, thereby having a positive effect on the lives of their families and communities.
