Design-A-Float Contest

Grab a shoe-box, to use as your base, glue and scissors. Then use whatever fun materials you have (recycled materials, stickers, glitter, construction paper, figurines, the list is endless) and let your imagination run wild as you create a mini Strawberry Festival Float that fits the theme of Celebrating Essential Workers. **Floats must be completed at home and brought to the festival for judging.

1:00 P.M, Saturday, May 28th at the Festival Amphitheater – 12852 Main Street, Garden Grove

LIMIT: 1 entry per participant

Click here to pre-register. We will also have in-person sign-ups at the Festival Amphitheater beginning at 12:00 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. on the day of the contest.

Each participant must be prepare to talk about their float design. Share what materials were used and why they chose to design the float the way they did.

Participants must arrive between 12:00-12:55 p.m., on May 28, 2022 with a finished float, late arrivals will not be able to participate. Use the main entrance and proceed to the floor of the theater and up the steps located to the right, taking into consideration any performance that may be occurring on stage. All eligible participants will be accepted.

RULES:

  • Shoebox size requirements: 9″x13″ entry may not exceed 15″.
  • Food items are not allowed to design float.
  • All eligible contestants will be accepted.
  • Write the title of your float on the side.
  • Put your name and age on the bottom of your float.
  • Participants will be required to talk about their creation for 1-3 minutes.
  • Participants will be judged in two age categories:
    • 5-8 years old
    • 9-12 years old
  • Participants in each age category will be judged in three categories
    1. Best Use of Resources
    2. Most Unique
    3. Most Creative
  • Decisions of Judges will be final.
  • Floats must be completed at home and brought to the festival for judging.
