Design-A-Float Contest (Saturday, May 27th)

Grab a shoe-box, to use as your base, glue and scissors, then use whatever fun materials you have (recycled materials, stickers, glitter, construction paper, the list is endless) and let your imagination run wild as you create a mini Strawberry Festival Float that fits the theme of Celebrating Kindness.

**Floats must be completed at home and brought to the festival for judging.

Age categories:

  • 5-8 years old
  • 9-12 years old

Each participant must be prepare to talk about their float design. Share what materials were used and why they chose to design the float the way they did.

RULES:

  • Floats must be completed at home and brought to the festival for judging.
  • Floats must reflect the theme of this year’s festival: Celebrating Kindness
  • Participants must arrive at the Festival Amphitheater between 12:00-12:55 p.m., on May 27th with a finished float, late arrivals will not be able to participate. Use the main entrance and proceed to the floor of the theater and up the steps located to the right, taking into consideration any performance that may be occurring on stage.
  • Shoebox size requirements: 9″x13″ entry may not exceed 15″.
  • Food items are not allowed in the design of the float.
  • All eligible contestants will be accepted.
  • Write the title of your float on the side.
  • Put your name and age on the bottom of your float.
  • Participants will be required to talk about their creation for 1-3 minutes.
  • Participants will be judged in two age categories:
    • 5-8 years old
    • 9-12 years old
  • Participants in each age category will be judged in three categories
    1. Best Use of Resources
    2. Most Unique
    3. Most Creative
  • All eligible participants will be accepted.
  • Decisions of Judges will be final.
