Karina Valdez is a sixteen-year-old junior currently attending Pacifica High School. She is the middle child of five siblings. Her family supports all of her activities and future aspirations. They are extremely close-knit and never miss out on an opportunity for sibling bonding. Their support during her experience as a contestant in the Miss Garden Grove pageant was immensely appreciated. Not only are they a huge part of her life, but they have helped shape who she is today.

Other than her family, the next most important aspect of her life is dancing. Karina has been dancing since the age of 2 and it has evolved into one of her biggest passions. She practices up to six days a week throughout the entire school year. Not only is she actively involved with her high school dance team, but she is also on an All-Star team at Pace Elite. In April 2012, Karina and her team placed first in Senior Jazz at the World Dance Championships in Orlando, Florida.

Dancing is not Karina’s only interest. She is extremely dedicated to pursuing a degree in higher education. Karina currently maintains a GPA of 4.2 and has taken numerous honors and Advanced Placement courses so she can prepare herself for a bright future and hopefully earn college credit. Karina wants to take advantage of all the opportunities high school has to offer. Her goals are to graduate high school at the top of her class and attend New York University. While in New York, Karina hopes to obtain the skills to become a Broadway performer and participate in a Broadway production. Karina knows how costly her future aspirations may be, which is why she made the decision to become involved in the Miss Garden Grove Scholarship Pageant. Winning the title of Miss Garden Grove’s Outstanding Teen has already made a huge impact on the goals she wishes to achieve.

Among those goals is to spread her platform of Self-Image. Her platform is something she is intensely passionate about. She hopes to start by making a difference in the young girls and women in her community currently struggling with this issue. From there she hopes to make an impact throughout her state, and even one day move on to assisting women at a national level.

Karina is very excited about being Miss Garden Grove’s Outstanding Teen 2013 and can’t wait to see what this year has in store for her. She hopes to inspire others with her platform and leave behind an unforgettable legacy dedicated to serving her community and having a lasting, genuine impression on everyone around her.
