The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association is accepting requests for grants/donations from non-profit organizations that serve the citizens of Garden Grove. Letters requesting funds must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2014 to be considered for donations. A total of $100,000 will be donated.

All letters must be submitted on the non-profit organization’s letterhead and include the non-profit identification number, amount of the request and the purpose for funding.

Donations are limited to capital improvements and capital equipment or durable goods. Funds are not given to organizations which award charitable cash grants. Other selection criteria considered include organizations which:

• Put majority of its time and finances toward the betterment of the community.
• Have sound track record of fiscal responsibility, or for new groups, plans to achieve financial soundness.
• Demonstrate stability and consistency in attaining goals and fulfilling its purpose.
• Demonstrate a specific need.
• Provide services regardless of race, creed, gender, or age.

Box 2287, Garden Grove, CA 92842; Attention: Donations Committee. “Each year it is our goal to give back to the community by donating to non-profit organizations that provide services for children, seniors, youth, community and the arts,” said Donation Committee Chairman Mark Mahoney, “and we strive to do so in a fair and equitable manner to all eligible organizations.” He also noted that priority may be given to Garden Grove-based organizations.

Proceeds of $119,092.00 raised from last year’s Garden Grove Strawberry Festival were awarded earlier this year by the Festival Board of Directors to 12 non-profit organizations: Acacia Adult Day Services, Boys and Girls Clubs, H.O.P.E., One More Productions, Kiwanisland, Senior Serv, and the Guardettes. Other Garden Grove organizations who also received funds include the Downtown Business Association, Historical Society, Fire Department, Channel 3, and The Courtyard Center.

The Strawberry Festival is an annual non-profit event produced by the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association, a dedicated volunteer group which has raised more than $6.5 million for various charities since its inception in 1958. The Festival, which will celebrate its 56th anniversary in 2014, is held annually on Memorial Day Weekend. It will take place Friday, May 23rd through Monday, May 26th, 2014.
